FAQs

Who are the students at eJewcate Me?
Our program is for all Jewish students who want access to an outstanding religious and/or Hebrew education. Frequently our students have schedules that conflict with the Jewish education available in their home towns, live in an area that lacks a quality synagogue school within driving distance, have physical limitations, or special learning needs can best be met through online learning.

When does the school year begin?
Our program is designed to enable each student to begin learning at any time of the year.

Can eJewcate Me meet my child's individual learning needs?
Yes! The beauty of eJewcate Me online learning is that each child’s instruction can be easily customized. If your child excels and seeks a challenge, we can offer further, in-depth study. If your child has a specific learning deficit, we can accommodate your child’s needs by offering instruction that works to your child’s strengths.

Can my child schedule study time around his/her other activities?
Yes! eJewcate Me is designed to be available whenever your child has time to learn! Our Judaic and Hebrew lessons are online 24/7. Hebrew teachers give one-on-one sessions at a time that is convenient for your child.

Is Bar/Bat Mitzvah available?
Yes! We offer Bar and Bat Mitzvah service preparation including assignment of Torah and Haftarah portions and help with writing a Bar/Bat Mitzvah D'var Torah and speech. We will work with your clergy to prepare your child or, if there is not a Rabbi or Cantor in your area, we can help arrange for clergy to come to your town.

How many hours per week will my child be devoting to his/her studies?
Every child is different, but most children will spend about 2 hours per week to complete all of the assignments, practice reading Hebrew, and participate in one-on-one Hebrew tutoring sessions.

How much parental help will my child need?

Every child is different. Some children are self-starters and do not need reminding by parents to go online and complete assignments and practice Hebrew; however, some children require more prompting. Additionally, children who have greater computer skills will require less parental assistance than those without. Either way, parents should plan on working with their children at the beginning of their studying with eJewcate Me to ensure their children have a comfort level with the computer and the format.

What technology requirements will my child need?

Your child will need a computer with internet access, a digital camera, and a microphone (often built into computers.) You will need to access CourseSites by Blackboard, which is a free program on the internet.

How do I register my child?
Registering is as easy as completing the online registration form. Please be sure to let us know about any previous Jewish education your child has received so we can place your child in the correct year of study. Hebrew teachers will spend the first lesson assessing a student’s Hebrew ability if the student has received prior Hebrew education.

How do the Judaic classes work?
All Judaic lessons are available 24/7 to your child. Your child will log in to our Learning System via Coursesites and work through one lesson at a time. Each lesson contains exciting multi-media sources and opportunities for your child to respond to a variety of meaningful questions which allows each lesson to have personal meaning and impact.

How will my child know how to work in the Learning System?
All students receive an orientation session to learn their way around the system. We also have a series of short videos that show step-by-step how to navigate through Coursesites. Additionally, Coursesites has many videos and PDF's available. However, we have found that once students get into the system, there is little that they need to be shown!

How does my child learn Hebrew?
Your child will learn to read Hebrew, read and chant prayers, and learn some modern Hebrew vocabulary using videos in online lessons that include games and recordings. In addition, each week your child will have a 20-minute, one-on-one  online Hebrew lesson with a Hebrew teacher at a time that is convenient for you.

Can my child learn only Hebrew?
Yes. If you are only interested in Hebrew education, your child may participate in our Hebrew Only option.

How is my child’s progress tracked?

Each week your child’s Judaic studies teacher will assess, evaluate, and review your child’s work and give feedback on your child’s progress while challenging your child to think through how the content applies to life today.

Each week your child's Hebrew teacher will tutor your child and listen to your child’s Hebrew reading to assess progress via Coursesites Live .

How will I know how my child is progressing?
After each tutoring session, our Hebrew teachers email not only the student, but also parents/caregivers to report on your child’s progress and share insight about your child’s work.  Whenever a student submits an assignment, the parents/caregivers are copied on the responses the teacher gives. You are also always welcome at any time to contact your child’s teachers via e-mail if you have any questions or concerns.

What if my child falls behind?
You are the best source of ensuring that your child goes online weekly to complete the week’s lessons. As soon as a child does not complete a lesson in a timely fashion, the teacher will contact you to make sure you are aware. Your child’s teacher will notify you if there are any concerns regarding your child’s progress and how to work together to ensure your child's success. In extreme cases, additional time and/or tutoring may become necessary at an additional charge.
